Oh ThisVid, how I hate you — let me count the ways…
Anyone who uploads much content on ThisVid has probably seen their account nuked a few times for opaque reasons. I think I’m up to my fifth account there. When they nuke you, they don’t say why, and they don’t respond to e-mails begging for information. This is in clear breach of s. 21 of the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), which requires sites to provide procedural fairness to their users — giving written reasons for account termination, and providing a way to appeal against the decision.
ThisVid also permits other users to plagiarise my kink content and they ignore DMCA takedown requests. They know damn well that their users are posting content stolen from OnlyFans etc. This is only a problem for them if the legitimate owners of the content can find where it’s posted on ThisVid in order to request a takedown… so ThisVid imposed a ban on mentioning the names of porn performers. Poor old Tyler Wu can’t find his video in a Google Search if it’s described simply as ‘Asian twunk gets railed.’ However, they quite happily permit exposure posts that identify members of the public by their government names.
The site did recently introduce a scheme to request advance permission to include a watermark on your videos — in my case this would be kinkHQ.xyz — but the form to request this is broken. It responds to all submissions with an ‘already submitted’ error. I’ve tried multiple times to submit this form. And my most recent CBT 101 video got refused publication because of the watermark!
ThisVid recently put a USC 2257 notice in their footer that links to a statement that all models, performers and other persons depicted in actual sexual conduct in content posted on the site were aged 18 years or older at the time of filming. How could they possibly know that? It is a pure assertion. And if USC 2257 applies to them, they are required to hold proof of age documentation on every performer and provide this upon request, and they certainly can’t comply with that requirement. It’s pure theatre.
The platform recently made some big changes to their content categories — in particular they no longer permit scat videos. I personally dislike scat and I don’t love that scat creators are now going to be posting their videos in other categories while the site plays whack-a-mole trying to take those videos down. But it is likely ThisVid took this action because they knew they can’t charge credit card payments while also publishing scat content — the card processors are very clear about this. That tells me that ThisVid have an intention of charging users for something in the near future.
I would probably pay for a decent Premium option on ThisVid. I would love the option to pay a subscription to gain access to the private uploads of users I’m not friends with, for example. But the big obstacle would be the absolute disrespect with which the site treats its users who upload videos. They have been brutal in taking my accounts down and refusing to communicate, after I’ve performed hundreds of hours of free labour on their behalf stocking their site with great kink content.
